Editorial policy, sources and corrections
BankHolidayToday answers one question, “are banks open today?”, for the United States, the United Kingdom and India. This page explains where our information comes from, how we check it, and how to report a mistake.
Primary sources
- United States: the Federal Reserve K.8 holiday schedule and the federal holiday statute, 5 U.S.C. § 6103.
- United Kingdom: GOV.UK bank holidays, by nation.
- India: the Reserve Bank of India holiday matrix, by regional office, and RBI announcements.
How we verify
Holiday data is stored in structured files and checked by an automated validator before every release. The validator enforces the schema and sort order, rejects duplicates, and cross-checks US and UK dates against an independent public holiday source. Where the Federal Reserve differs from that source, for example when a holiday falls on a Saturday, we follow the Federal Reserve and note the difference on the page. If validation fails, the site does not publish.
The “Updated” date on a page reflects the last time the underlying data passed those checks, not the date we edited the wording.
How articles are made
Our articles are drafted with the help of AI tools and then checked against the primary sources listed on each guide. We cite sources at the end of long-form guides. Where we could not confirm a detail from a primary source, we leave it out or say that we could not confirm it. Nothing on this site is financial, legal or investment advice.
Uncertain dates
Some Indian festival holidays depend on moon sighting and can move by a day. We label these as provisional. One-off closures announced by an official body are added as overrides when published.
Corrections
If you find a wrong date or a mistaken statement, email [email protected] with the page, the date and a link to the official source. We check reports against the primary source and correct verified errors promptly.
Advertising and independence
The site is supported by advertising. Ads never change what we publish, and sponsors do not influence holiday data or article content.
