How US bank holidays work
US banks follow the Federal Reserve K.8 holiday schedule: 11 federal holidays a year, from New Year's Day to Christmas. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, most retail banks observe it on the preceding Friday; a Sunday holiday shifts to Monday.
A handful of states add their own closures — Texas, Massachusetts and New York among them — which is why each state page above shows federal holidays plus state extras. Sundays are always closed.
