How UK bank holidays work
UK bank holidays follow the GOV.UK bank holiday calendar, set separately for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Scotland gets extras like 2 January and St Andrew's Day; Northern Ireland gets St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne — which is why each nation has its own checker above.
When a bank holiday falls on a weekend, it moves to a substitute weekday (for example, Boxing Day on a Saturday shifts to the following Monday) — banks close on the substitute day. The table above uses the official substitute dates, never the weekend date.
